Meet the Team



Jeremy Wakefield  

Jeremy Wakefield first qualified as a Barrister and became a Solicitor in 1988, working in London before joining Wartnabys in 2003 and becoming a Partner in 2006.

He is the managing partner of the firm and heads the Property Department.  He deals with work of all kinds, and has particular experience of residential and commercial leaseholds.


Sarah Hefford

Sarah Hefford qualified as a solicitor in 2010 and deals with Powers of Attorney, Wills and Probate.

David Brown, Solicitor

David Brown

David Brown qualified as a solicitor in 2002 and specialises in Civil and Family Litigation, together with Licensing Law. He acts for individuals, businesses, Charities and Trusts, and conducts Court and Tribunal cases.

Rachel Alvey

Rachel Alvey joined Heffords in 2002 and subsequently qualified as a Legal Executive in 2008 prior to the merger between Wartnabys and Heffords in 2012.  Rachel Alvey became a Partner at Wartnaby Hefford on 1st April 2016 and alongside Jeremy Wakefield, heads a busy property department.  Rachel deals with residential conveyancing.




Michael Doody

Michael Doody joined the firm in 1964, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1978 and becoming a Partner in 1979 since when he headed the Property Department until retiring in 2014.  He is now a non-practising Consultant to the firm.


Richard Balme

Richard Balme qualified as a Solicitor in 1979 and a Partner in Wartnabys since 1983 since when he headed the Probate Department and was the managing partner of the firm until retiring in 2017.  He remains a practising Consultant to the firm.






Sandra Garvey

Sandra Garvey a Solicitor since 1987 who joined in 2006 and deals with Wills, Probate and Trusts and Powers of Attorney in our Probate Department.

Ursula Morris

Ursula Morris a Solicitor admitted in 1985 works in the Property Department.

Ursula joined the firm in 1988 and left in 1998 to have a family and rejoined us in April 2010.

Russell Dowling Solicitor

Russell Dowling

Russell joined us from a Leicester firm where he was previously a partner, having qualified in 2008. He will be dealing with all aspects of property work, in particular commercial property, acting for businesses, developers and landowners.



Legal Executive

Carol Berry

Carol Berry has been with the firm for many years and is an Associate Legal Executive.

She deals particularly with residential conveyancing.
